Our Week at a Glance!

Wow!! We've had a very busy two weeks! We've learned lots of school rules/expectations, and also have had a little fun, too! :) Here are some of my favorite things....

Reading:

We've been working on cooperating and sharing, so today we practiced reading with a partner. This is a HUGE step for first graders because they get to help each other learn. They really enjoyed working together in partners. :)

We've also been working on at/an word families. We played a "Super Cool Fly Swatter" game today where the kids had to "swat" certain at/an words in a poem. They thought it was really fun! Don't worry about the fly swatters because I bought new ones! :)  We also had a scavenger hunt today with at/an words. I was very surprised because many of my kids had never been on a scavenger hunt, so they thought it was extra fun (even though they were actually learning). :)

Math:

We have been review numbers to 10 and number words this week. My students' favorite game was when we used "magic highlighter rocks" to show greater than and less than on a number line. We've been practicing greater than and less than, so we used "special" rocks to highlight certain numbers. They also liked a game we played where they got to use a large dice to show greater than and less than. I think we are ready for our first math test! :)

Social Studies:

Since it is the beginning of a new school year, we've been reviewing being kind to each other and cooperating. I read a book called, "How Full is Your Bucket?" The book talks about an invisible bucket that every person has over their heads. When someone says or does something nice, then you get a drop in your bucket. If someone says or does something mean to you, then you lose a drop. We are working on filling each others buckets, and we even have "buckets" (they are actually little pockets) for each child in the room. We are going to write each other a note every week to fill our buckets. Please look for that note in your child's folder on Friday's. :)

***I have wonderful pictures of the kids, but I'm having problems posting them. I hope to have this solved asap!!!!
